「未来の幽霊」 — 2017

表面と奥行きというテーマは現在（表面の絵具の痕跡）と過去（下地に描かれた過去の写真の画像）という時間の問題をも引き出していった。
「未来の幽霊」は今という時間を問う。過去のある時点にいるそのひとたちから見た未来は、私たちがいるこの現在であり、同じように私たちはここからさらに時を経た何年後かの未来の人とまなざしを交わす。死者として。
絵のなかに立ち現れる幽霊は、その意味で未生の「未来の幽霊」なのである。

Ghosts of the Future — 2017

The theme of surface and depth eventually elicited the question of time—the tension between the present (the physical traces of paint on the surface) and the past (the underlying imagery of historical photographs). Ghosts of the Futureinterrogates the very concept of the present moment. The “future” as envisioned by those individuals existing at a certain point in the past is precisely the “present” in which we now stand. In the same manner, we exchange glances from this current locus with the people of a future further down the line—as the deceased. The ghosts that manifest within the painting are, in that sense, the unborn “ghosts of the future.”
